MYSTERIOUS DEATHS Italy in the Middle Ages: A series of murders casts dark shadows over a secluded Benedictine abbey. Already four monks have been found dead, with striking black spots found on their fingertips and tongues. IS THE DEVIL LOOSE? The whole community is convinced that it can only have been the Devil. The Abbot calls for the Inquisition from distant Rome for help. Innocent women are put on trial and burned as witches, the most convenient monks are brutally tortured to elicit a false confession. Yet one monk has written to you secretly, asking if you could not take a look at the matter, for your keen mind is not only known among your brothers, the Franciscans.
